Training includes creating an account with us (so we know you’re a real person), going through some reading and some videos, and then registering your group with us so we can list it on the website. Along the way, someone from New Church Outreach will contact you to make a connection and answer any questions.

Emanuel Swedenborg (1688-1772) was a scientist, inventor, and theologian. His theological writings, which fill over 30 large volumes, uncover a deeper, spiritual meaning in the Bible’s literal stories. His teachings reject the notion of faith alone, while offering a framework for living that emphasizes love and wisdom in action.

The New Church is a small denomination of Christianity that uses Swedenborgian spirituality as a basis for understanding the Word, ourselves, and our world. To learn more, visit

What is a New Church group?2021-10-19T17:56:19+00:00

A spiritual group that is New Church can look like many things: a worship service in a large cathedral, a gathering of three friends who meet every week to talk about their lives in a spiritual context, moms who host each other and their kids once a month to talk about the hardships and victories of parenting. It can be any group where people meet regularly and support each other in living heavenly lives based on the Lord’s teachings.

What does it take to be a group leader?2021-10-19T17:43:00+00:00

First of all, anyone can lead a spiritual group. What it takes is someone who cares, who shows up, and who can listen and foster discussion.

What can I expect in a New Church group gathering?2021-10-19T18:40:54+00:00

Because these groups are about human connection, Spiritual Group gatherings are as individual as the people in them, with common themes throughout. The main focus is coming together in community and spending time nurturing your relationships with each other and with God.

Each group has a host or facilitator who helps ensure that each gathering goes as smoothly as possible and feels safe for all involved. Gatherings generally consist of reading passages from Scripture, sharing thoughts and questions, praying together, and identifying actions can positively impact you, your group, and others in your life.
